Day out of Time

The Day out of Time is the culmination of the 13 Moon Calendar year from the Tzolkin, or Mayan Calendar (13X28=364). The Day out of Time re-aligns humanity into remembering our inherent connection to eternal time, the cosmos, and to nature. It is a day to remember we are all one, to remember our connection runs deeper than borders, gender, or race. We are connected by the earth, by the sun, by the stars, and by the cycles of the moon.

On this Day out of Time I hope you find yourself immersed in nature, looking at the stars with the people you love, and grateful for this awe-inspring world we live in. If you are in your office (it is Tuesday), try to get outside on your lunch break and sit amongst the trees in the park. Give thanks for the life they provide.

Back in my 20’s, Sound Tribe Sector 9 (still one of my favorite bands, and good friends of mine) used to talk about the Tzolkin and other aspects of Mayan culture. One thing that I heard a lot at their shows was, In Lak’ech, a phrase that basically means, I am another you (I am you. You are me). If we lived our lives as if we are one, that you are me, and I am you, maybe there would be less war, less destruction of the earth, less suffering at the expense of the privileged. Maybe we can start on this Day out of Time.

In Lak’ech,

Gung Hay Fat Choy!

Happy New Year of the Yin Fire Hen!

For many, 2016, the  year of the Yang Fire Monkey was a little too disruptive. Too many unexpected events, deaths, and political outcomes left us mentally and emotionally exhausted. The mischievous Monkey is finally behind us and we’ve moved into the more trustworthy Yin Fire Hen.

Being a Fire year, there is still a potential for a fanning of the flames, but the Hen is more

red-chicken

loyal and courageous. With Hen dominating the show, we are sure to see more civil unrest and uprising as patriarchal ideals of sexism, racism and bigotry continue to be challenged. Change may move slower than some of us want, but the Yin nature of the year will help deter burnout, which can occur when our Fire rages out of control. The Yin Hen reminds us to nest, reserve our energy so we can be there for ourselves, our family, and our community when the time comes.

With the rights and equality of women being recognized once again, I am seeing the patriarchy that has molded and shaped our cultures and how it is ingrained in every aspect of our lives. I have purposely used the female Hen instead of the male Rooster. Yin is attributed to the female, so I am honoring matriarchy and every one that identifies with the female energy and dedicating this year to us!

May the reality we create be of benefit to all. May our passion be fueled into love and compassion action.

With love,

Mercury’s in Retrograde: An Essential Oil Blend to Ease the Struggle

Let’s be real — many of us are feeling the effects of Mercury in retrograde as we are experiencing communication and technological mishaps.

Usually, I am not affected by this astrological phenomenon that can occur up to several times a year and last for weeks, though right now, I’m totally feeling it. Each project is taking longer than usual, and I’m having to put more effort into being clear to avoid misunderstandings.

When Mercury is in retrograde it is recommended that you don’t sign any important documents or having any dealings where miscommunication or misrepresentation may be heightened. I usually don’t go this extreme, but I do notice that I have to slow down and pay attention to the subtleties behind the words. To help give you clarity and grounding that is needed during this time I love this recipe.

Mercury in Retrograde Blend — Gain Clarity & Grounding

In a 1-ounce glass spritzer bottle, add 1-ounce spring water and the following:

Ingredients:
4 drops Clary Sage essential oil (brings clarity to thought and insights)
3 drops Mandarin essential oil (regulates qi, much needed during retrograde)
3 drops Frankincense essential oil (calms spirit, promotes circulation of qi)
2 drops Ylang Ylang essential oil (calms spirit, cools heat)

As always use only sustainably harvested and/or organic essential oils.

Hope you gain clarity and grounding during this turbulent time!
